ALAMEDA, CA (KRON/CNN) - An explosive sent to the home of a police officer detonated on Friday, leaving one person injured.
Federal authorities are investigating. The ATF and the bomb squad responded to the explosion.
"A parcel was delivered by mail and it did detonate," said Jeff Fitch of U.S. Postal Inspection Service. "We've been actively working the investigation. We worked it early into the early hours on Saturday. We worked Saturday, Sunday and today on the investigation."
Friday's case in Alameda is the second exploding package in the Bay Area in six weeks.
On Oct. 19, a package was sent to a home in East Palo Alto. It also exploded and injured someone in the process.
"It is a serious federal offense with stiff penalties," Fitch said.
No arrests have been made and no suspect descriptions given.
Some neighbors living in the area are a bit shaken by the ordeal.
Memories of Unabomber and domestic terrorist Ted Kaczynski may be long past, but he was responsible for at least four mail bombs in northern California, include at least two in the Bay Area more than 20 years ago
No group or suspect has been linked to this most recent case, but officials said they are working to try and figure out who is to blame.
"We have a task force of inspectors and detectives working on this actively at this time," Fitch said.
It's unclear if the explosive sent last month was also delivered to the home of a police officer.
