ST. MORITZ, Switzerland (CNN) – American Olympic skier Lindsey Vonn is working hard to get ready for the 2018 Winter Olympics Games in South Korea, where she says she’ll be proud to represent the American people but not the president.
Vonn, 33, spoke passionately to CNN’s “Alpine Edge” about what it means to compete for the US ski team, and she was equally passionate as she said how she feels about President Donald Trump and his administration.
"Well, I hope to represent the people of the United States, not the president,” Vonn said. “I want to represent our country well. I don't think that there are a lot of people currently in our government that do that.”
Vonn also says she “absolutely” wouldn’t accept an invitation to the White House if she were to win a gold medal.
The skier is competing for a second Olympic gold in the 2018 games after triumphing in the downhill competition at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.
Though Vonn’s first gold medal performance turned her into a global star, injuries have kept her out of Olympic competition since.
Several other Winter Olympics competitors have said publicly that they won’t go to the White House if they win the gold, including free skier Gus Kenworthy and figure skaters Ashley Wagner, Nathan Chen and Adam Rippon.
