EAST CHICAGO, IN (WGN/CNN) - At least one person was injured in a suspected pipe bomb explosion at an East Chicago post office on Wednesday.
Fire crews say one post office employee suffered minor injuries when a device detonated inside the post office, which was reportedly closed at the time.
Federal and local officials responded to the scene.
Officials said an investigation is ongoing.
"Right now the FBI, the ATF - all the agencies are here. We're investigating. We, I believe, can confirm there was at least one detonation, but right now we cannot confirm if there is any other. So right now there's an ongoing investigation," said Acting Chief Francisco Mendez of the East Chicago Fire Department.
No suspects have been identified.
People who live in the area are concerned about what happened.
"That's really scary. We've never had anything like this happen," one person said.
"It could have torn up our little neighborhood if it was a real bomb. You know, it's scary," another person said
