HOMECROFT, IN (WISH/CNN) - A police officer in Indiana was shot and killed Thursday.
Witnesses said Southport Lt. Aaron Allan was responding to a rollover car crash near a home in Homecroft when the driver opened fire.
Allen was hit multiple times. He was rushed to a hospital, where he later died.
Two responding officers returned fire, shooting and injuring the suspected gunman.
A passenger in the vehicle had to be taken to a hospital for injuries sustained in the crash.
Their names were not released, but officials say they should survive.
