(CNN) - Former President Barack Obama has the most popular tweet in history.
Saturday, following the deadly violence in Charlottesville, VA, Obama tweeted a picture of him smiling at a group of children from different racial backgrounds, accompanied by a quote from Nelson Mandela, the former president of South Africa, which continued in two other tweets:
"No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin or his background or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love. For love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite."
As of Wednesday morning, it's been retweeted more than 1.2 million times and has 3 million likes. Twitter said it's the most likes for a tweet ever.

Obama took the No. 1 spot from pop star Ariana Grande, whose response to the deadly terror attack following her concert in Manchester was the previous most liked tweet.
