A man from Huntsville who started a lawn caring service is getting ready to tour the nation for a second time.
Rodney Smith Jr. started Raising Men Lawn Care Service (RMLCS) in 2015. As a student at Alabama A&M University, he began cutting lawns for those who needed help. He started encouraging others to join the cause after returning from a nationwide mowing mission.
"We mow grass for the elderly, disabled, single-parent mothers and veterans free of charge," Smith said.
His mission of mowing began as a way to help people who could use a hand. It grew into a way to help children too.
In 2017, he traveled to all 50 states to raise awareness for RMLCS while mowing lawns for free in each state for the elderly, disabled, single moms, and veterans.
Smith is now planning for his second trip around the country, which will begin on May 7. His goals this time around include teaching children about lawn mower safety as well as the importance of community service.
Smith will visit schools and organizations to talk to children and also plans to stay in each state an entire day.
Rodney found an inspiration to spread the message of good will in March 2017. "I was watching a video on Netflix of this guy traveling the world offering acts of kindness, and something just sparked off. Something just said '50 states, 50 lawns,'" he said.
Manufacturing company Briggs & Stratton contributed equipment and some funding to help RMLCS.
