NJ shore town readies for more snow

Posted

GLOUSESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ (KYW/CNN) – Tuesday marked the first day of spring, but there was no warm weather in much of New Jersey.

The Garden State is dealing with another winter storm with possible snow and ice, and the worst could be yet to come.

It’s another week, and another nor’easter. It seems only the most diehard snow fans could like the month of March this year.

"I don't mind the snow, but I'd rather it be on a Friday night or Saturday," resident John Mignano said.

The waves were chest high and getting bigger in Ocean City Tuesday. The latest nor’easter is sending several days of strong wind and surf that will put recent sand replenishment and sea wall projects to the test.

But the bigger issue at the shore will be the street flooding during the high tides from Tuesday through Thursday evenings.

When the bay can’t drain out to sea because of storm surge, the streets can’t drain.

The rest of south Jersey is having its own road problems as surfaces will be icy at first and slushy once the snow starts accumulating.

"We recommend that residents stay home at this time,” said Lt. James Schriver of Gloucester Township Police. “Best way is to avoid it unless you need to be out on the roadways."

Police said the best way to avoid an accident is not to take unnecessary trips. Forecasters said parts of New Jersey could see up to a foot of snow from the nor’easter.
