CLEARWATER, KS (KWCH-DT/CNN) - A time of celebration turns to mourning after a couple was killed in a car crash in Kansas a day after their wedding.
"Incredibly grief stricken, very close family, very close friends all around them, and that's what I observed,” said Renee Edwards, Rebekah Bouma’s English teacher.
The crash that killed the newlyweds happened at 6:30 p.m. Saturday on 103rd Street in Clearwater. The silver Ford Austin Wesson was driving rolled over, and was found on its side. Wesson died there. His new wife, 19-year-old Rebekah Bouma, died two days later.
She went to school at Trinity Academy in Wichita. "I remember exactly where she sat. I remember immediately having the impression that she was full of light and life. She had those sparkly eyes that often all of us who remember her think of her as just full of life,” Edwards said.
The teacher says she was very smart, an honors student at Trinity. She visited Rebekah in the hospital before she died.
"Incredibly heartbroken for her family, shocked, but also very aware that Rebekah was living her life just fully for Christ in a beautiful way at such a young age,” Edwards said.
Her teacher says Rebekah's new husband, Austin, also shared the same strong faith. Sedgwick County Sheriff officers are still investigating what caused the crash.
