(CNN) - Every wish the tires on your car could never go flat? Well, NASA said it's invented a tire that does just that.

Officials at the NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland have created a woven-mesh metal tire that remembers its ideal shape, then springs back into its original form after taking a beating.

Researchers wanted to create tires that can survive the rough terrain on the planet Mars.

The current Mars Curiosity Rover has numerous tire issues, and is instructed to avoid small pointy rocks to prevent further damage.

NASA said the tires may be used in future mars missions, as well as on vehicles on Earth.
