(CNN) - Special counsel Robert Mueller has subpoenaed the Trump Organization for business documents.
The New York Times reported on Thursday that the subpoena includes items related to Russia.
This development is the first public indication that Mueller has demanded materials related to Pres. Trump's businesses.
This follows a CNN report from January that the company voluntarily turned over documents related to Trump's real estate business.
According to a source who spoke to CNN on Thursday, the subpoena is meant to ensure that all pertinent items are submitted.
A Trump organization attorney released a statement calling the report "old news" and said the company has consistently cooperated with the investigation.
