HOUSTON (KTRK/CNN) - Brittany Jasmine is charged with endangering a child. The 22-year-old mom is accused of dunking her own son repeatedly at a community pool in Sunnyside in early June.
Court documents say Jasmine ignored lifeguards' whistles ordering her to stop putting her son in danger. At one point a lifeguard said, ‘you can't do that. You have to stop.' Investigators say she continued to dunk the baby, and eventually he lost consciousness.
Lifeguards reported the 1-year-old boy was not breathing, and they had to revive him on the scene.
While Jasmine appeared in court, her mother talked about the family from her home. She was asked if her daughter is someone who would intentionally hurt her child? "No. No. She wouldn't hurt him, she loves him,” Joyce Wallace said.
The 1-year-old boy the mother is accused of dunking stood beside his grandmother as she was talking about the incident. She says the boy is OK now.
She has custody of the boy along with Jasmine's other child. While she defends her daughter and says she's a loving mother, she says she does not know why her daughter allegedly put her grandson in so much danger.
"She really misses her baby, and he misses her. Yeah, I'm concerned, cause I want her to get back with her baby,” Wallace said.
