LAS VEGAS (KSNV/CNN) – More than 100 police officers in Las Vegas attended the graduation ceremony for the son of a fallen officer in an effort to “stand in for a fallen brother,” according to the department Twitter.
Daxton Beck graduated Saturday from Arbor View High School in Las Vegas, and members of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department came out in droves to show support.
The graduate’s father, Officer Alyn Beck, was shot and killed in 2014 by an anti-government couple. Beck and fellow officer Igor Soldo, who was also killed, were on a lunch break at the time.
"It could happen to any of us any day. We want to treat their families the way we'd want our families to be treated. We don't want them to be forgotten. We want them to be remembered, and special days like this – his graduation – we want them to know that it's important. And even though Dad can't be there, we're here,” said Sgt. Eric Hutchason, who attended the ceremony.
Daxton Beck says he was shocked at the turnout.
