WASHINGTON, DC (CNN) - Montenegro is part of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO.)
NATO Under Secretary Thomas Shannon accepted the Balkan country during a ceremony on Monday in Washington. NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg also participated in the welcoming event.
NATO now has 29 members including Montenegro.
On Wednesday, Montenegro's flag will make its debut over NATO headquarters at Brussels, Belgium.
