Posted

People found a man dead on the beach in Glynn County Monday morning after he went missing Sunday night while attempting to help a woman and a toddler that were having trouble making it back to shore in waters near St. Simons Island.

According to a press release from the Glynn County Police Department, family members found Gregory Grant, 39, around 7:30 a.m. Glynn County police and emergency personnel responded to a call of swimmers in distress in the water off St. Simons Island near Massengale Park around 6 p.m. Sunday.

When they arrived, Grant was missing after attempting to help the mother and her child.

Several nearby people helped the endangered woman and child make it back to shore, but the mother - 34-year-old Aleisha Rankin - later died at the Southeast Georgia Health System in Brunswick. We are told by officials the child is in good condition.

The Glynn County Police and Fire Departments, Emergency Management, U.S. Coast Guard, and several other agencies worked into Sunday night searching for the missing man.
