(CNN) - Sometimes a game is much more than just a game.
Researchers at NYU said Minecraft is helping some young Syrian refugees feel better emotionally.
The video game Minecraft is considered an "open sandbox" game, where there is no set goal.
Players are encouraged to be creative and to design things like dream houses and villages.
Those involved in the data said Minecraft gives the refugees a better sense of control. Which some may have lost since fleeing their homeland.
The findings are based on 147 displaced children under the age of 14.
