(CNN) - Expect a lot of people to be traveling this Memorial Day weekend.
AAA says it expects more than 39 million Americans to travel more than 50 miles for the unofficial start of summer.
That's nearly 3 percent more than last year, and is the third straight year of increases.
More than 88 percent of those travelers will drive to their destinations. AAA says the jump is due to increased confidence in the U.S. economy, which means consumers are spending more.
