UNION GROVE, WI (WISN/CNN) - The shooting just before dark sent the estimated 15,000 people at the Fun Fest rushing for the exits.
A photo taken right after the shooting shows two of the bodies.
Willie Coleman had just served the men food when they were shot.
“So they were standing there talking to each other and next thing you know, somebody walked up out of the crowd and it’s, ‘Boom, boom boom,’” Coleman said. “They start shooting, so then everybody started ducking and running.”
Coleman said he actually spoke to the gunman.
“Then I said, ‘What’s going on?’ like that,” he said. “And he looked at me and then took off across the crowd running.”
That suspect is still at large. But the Kenosha County. Sheriff said they have some leads.
“Don’t know if this is retaliation. I don’t know if this is a family trouble. I really don’t know,” said Sheriff David Beth. “The only thing I’m very positive of is the three people who are dead are involved with a gang in Illinois.”
The three men range in age from 26 to 30 and lived in the Aurora, IL, area, and investigators are working with police there, as well as with gang officers in Milwaukee, Chicago and the FBI to try to learn who pulled the trigger, and why.
“He walked up to the three that are dead and basically just shot them point blank,” Beth said of the shooter. “So he knew who his targets were.”
