(WICU/WAAY/CNN) – Burgers made with Wagyu beef are coming to McDonald’s, but you’ll have to visit Australia to try them.
McDonald’s Australia started offering its Wagyu burger this week.
“Wagyu” is a Japanese cattle brand whose beef is known for its taste, tenderness and being healthier than other kinds of beef.
Wagyu beef has been exported to countries including the U.S. and Australia.
In addition to the Australian-bred Wagyu beef, the new McDonald’s burger comes with crispy bacon, caramelized onion, tomato, lettuce, cheese and special sauce – all on a gourmet bun.
And it’s not cheap. The burger costs the equivalent of $8, nearly twice the cost of the iconic Big Mac.
Food & Wine reports that social media users don't seem impressed with it. Some customers are griping about the high price, while others are complaining the burger is quite average, given the cost.
The Wagyu burger is only available for a limited time.
