(CNN) - Senator John McCain says he'll be getting treatment for brain cancer while working in the Senate.
It comes on the advice of his doctors, after an MRI at the National Institutes of Health this week.
McCain, who's 81 years old, was diagnosed with brain cancer in July, following surgery for a blood clot.
He left the Senate later that month to undergo the first round of chemotherapy in Arizona.
He came back to the Senate in early September, when Congress reconvened from its August recess.
Currently he is overseeing debate over the defense policy bill.
McCain's office say he will maintain a regular work schedule in the Senate while continuing his treatment.
