Massive fire breaks out in car lot

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV/CNN) - Firefighters in Portland, OR, responded to a massive car lot fire at Northeast 75th Avenue and Northeast Killingsworth Street.

Billowing black smoke could be seen from downtown Portland.

A nearby apartment building and duplex were destroyed and firefighters say several pets in the apartment building were killed.

There have been no immediate reports of people being injured.

Oregon Public Health reported that smoke from burning tires may contain toxic chemicals including cyanide, carbon monoxide or sulfur dioxide.

The cause has not yet been determined.
