ATTLEBORO, MA (WPRI/CNN) - A library book, overdue for more than 78 years, is finally back home.
Library workers in Attleboro, MA, said the book, The Young Lady at Home by T.S. Arthur, was due Nov. 21, 1938.
A man cleaning a friend's basement found the book, along with a due-date card, so he returned it and librarians dropped the late fee.
"People did comment on it, saying things like, oh it makes me feel less guilty about my overdue books," library Deputy Director Amy Rhilinger said.
Based on the library's current overdue policy of a 10-cent daily fine, the penalty for returning the book more than 78 years late would be about $2,800.
