Man offers truck to save wife's life

Posted

SANGER, CA (KMPH/CNN) - One California man is so desperate to get a liver for his sick wife, he wants to make a deal.

Verlon Robinson is offering a truck, a trailer, and even his own vital organs in exchange for a section of a liver that matches hers.

He'd take her place if he could, give his liver if he could and transfer her pain to him if he could.

But Robinson is out of options.

“We can move on with the other stuff, but I couldn't move on without her,” he said referring to his wife Marie Robinson, who is suffering from cirrhosis of the liver.

The disease eventually results in liver failure and cannot be cured. It can however be slowed.

“He doesn't know how to get on the internet,” Marie Robinson said.

Marie and Verlon Robinson have been married for 25 years. Doctors think Marie's had it for 10 years, but she's only known for three.

“Hers was due to fatty liver,” her husband said. “Yeah, it's kind of in the genes, kind of thing."

Marie Robinson needs a new liver and soon.

That is why Verlon Robinson decided to take to Facebook saying he'd give up his truck and his trailer if someone would give his wife a part of their liver.

“There are so many people out there that are sick, and need help, and I am just one of them," she said. "I just have a wonderful husband who is willing to give it all.”

He reached out to his friends first.

Then the post was shared and shared again.

People offered help, prayers, and their time, to go in and see if they're a match.

“It will take a very special person out there to do it,” Verlon Robinson said.

“Because they put their life in it,” said Marie Robinson.

She said the surgery can last six to eight hours.

But it can give her more time.

“Everything I've worked for all my life is not important to me. This is important to me, right here,” said Verlon Robinson said.

Important enough, he said to give up his truck, his trailer and his kidney.

Robinson is also willing to donate anything else he owns just to get his wife the liver she so desperately needs.

“I just couldn't imagine life without her,” he said.
