Man makes it onto flight with wrong ticket

PHOENIX, AZ (KNXV/CNN) – A former law enforcement officer says he made it through TSA and onto his flight all while holding the wrong ticket.

Ed Davis said American Airlines issued him the ticket, which he used to get through security and to what he thought was his seat on the flight.

Davis was rushing to Chicago to be at his wife’s side as she was losing her mother.

“I was worried about getting back home because my mother in law was gravely ill, he said. “I wasn’t really focusing on the ticket.”

He said he didn’t see the ticket given to him by a ticket agent wasn’t his – but another man with the same last name.

“I was able to get past TSA with this ticket, gave him my license,” Davis said.

He said he was cleared even though his ID didn’t match his ticket. His wife couldn’t believe it.

“I’m shocked that they would do that,” she said.”What is TSA there for other than to look at your ticket and look at your ID and to OK that you’re the person on the ticket.”

Davis even boarded the plane. Then the real “Davis” came on board.

“The gentleman came up and said ‘you’re in my seat, sir,” Davis said. “I said I have 32C and he showed me his ticket and neither of us looked at the name.”

Instead Ed Davis was removed from the plane, still unaware that he had the wrong ticket.”

“I was humiliated on the plane, I felt like they thought I didn’t pay for my ticket,” he said.

He was worried because he got a good deal on it and told the clerk “you got me a ticket that’s not working.”

That’s when he realized he was given someone else’s ticket with the same last name. He alerted the gate agent.

“She found it but the mistake had already been made and the plane took off with my suitcase,” he said.

Ed took another another flight, but the way he breezed through security concerned him.

“Anyone else could do that,” he said.

He said he contacted American Airlines to point out the breach of security and how he was able to get on the plane with someone else’s ticket.

They responded with a $200 voucher.
