TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A Tallahassee man has been sentenced to two years in prison for beating his elderly stepfather with a tree branch when an argument over a cellphone turned violent.

Thomas Spencer Jr. was sentenced to two years in state prison on Monday after pleading no contest to the felony charges.

According to court documents, the incident took place on July 31, 2017. Documents say Spencer and the victim, Spencer's stepfather, got into an argument after the victim accused Spencer of stealing his cellphone.

That's when things took a violent turn and Spencer told the victim if he wanted his cellphone to, "come outside and get it."

When the victim went outside, Spencer grabbed a tree branch and ran up to the victim, hitting him several times.

Thankfully, the victim didn't require hospitalization for his injuries but was bleeding and suffered several abrasions at the time of the attack.
