Man fakes own arrest to propose to girlfriend

Posted

LOUDON COUNTY, TN (WATE/CNN) - A man was arrested for a revoked license, but it wasn't real - the only thing that was real was the marriage proposal.

Sarah Ward thought they were going for a normal date night to an ice cream shop. She said the proposal didn't make her mad; humor and pranks are something that makes their relationship strong.

"He got me good," Ward said. "I thought he was going to jail."

Ronnie Harness' plan all along was to scare his girlfriend and then surprise her.

"I've seen it done before, but not here," Harness said. "So, I said, 'Why not?'"

Sgt. Scott Newman, who also was in on the prank, waited to see Harness' car drive into Loudon City. Ward now says the plan was "just perfect," and she has watched the video they recorded more than once.

"There's not a day that goes by that she doesn't make me laugh," Harness said. "We can kid each other and not get mad at each other."
