IRVINE, CA (KTLA/CNN) - Police released surveillance video Monday showing an attempted kidnapping at a store selling baby products.
Investigators asked for help identifying the man in the video. Around 7 p.m. Saturday, a woman was working alone at Mon Beau Bebe, a baby boutique, when the man walked in.
"Guy came in, asking questions about certain products," said another store employee, who asked to not be identified. "And he just kind of found a moment where he could grab her and hold her by her hair, try to take her into a back room."
The victim told the man that he was being recorded.
"She fought him and told him that there were video cameras in the store, at which time he released her and fled from the store," said Kim Mohr with the Irvine Police Department.
Mohr wouldn't speculate on the attacker's intent, but she said he was trying to drag the woman against her will into the storage room.
"That's why we're calling it an attempted kidnapping, because he was trying to forcibly remove her from one place to another," she said.
The store employee said the victim was fine, adding, "She's a very strong person."
"Luckily, there was nothing harmful done to her," the store employee said.
