KATY, TX (KTRK/CNN) - The school board in Katy, TX got a surprise when a former student confronted the superintendent at a meeting and accused him of being a bully.
He said it happened in the mid 1970's when both were students at West Memorial Junior High School, in Katy.
The man who addressed the school board was Greg Gay, who said he was a victim of bullying so severe that he tried to take his own life.
"I got the .45 out of my father's drawer and put it in my mouth. Because at this point, I had nobody. nobody in the school system to help me” said Gay.
Gay claimed it was Katy Independent School District Superintendent, Dr. Lance Hindt who bullied him multiple times, even shoving his head into a urinal so hard it busted his lip.
Gay said the trauma from the alleged bullying never left him.
"It's a pain you carry with you your whole life because you didn't do anything wrong,” said Gay. “I can't help that my last name when I was born was Gay."
Gay, who now goes by the last name Barrett, said for him the confrontation was personal and a matter of student safety today.
"I’m hoping that they can make change and hold teachers accountable because I mean, when this happened to me no teachers would help me, none,” said Gay.
Hindt issued a statement about the alleged incident.
Hindt said he did go to the same junior high school as Gay but doesn't remember him and said he was not a part of bullying.
