LOS ANGELES (KCAL/CNN) - The man accused of stealing actress Frances McDormand's Oscar appeared in court Wednesday.
Authorities said Terry Bryant took the award while the actress was at the Governor's Ball which took place shortly after the ceremony.
Bryant, 47, who refers to himself as an entertainment journalist, pleaded not guilty to the theft.
He did post a live-stream of himself with the Oscar.
Bryant has a criminal past with previous arrests for theft, assault and suspicion of trespassing.
As for the current charge, it's hard to put a price-tag on an Oscar.
"The grand theft is solely based on what the perceived value is, but it's a court of law it has to be proved it has that value,” said Bryant’s attorney, Daniel Brookman. “A unique item like an Oscar statue, it's difficult to prove that up."
McDormand was happily reunited with her Oscar and celebrated her win with a double cheeseburger from In-N-Out.
Bryant, meanwhile, could be sent to jail for up-to-three years if convicted.
