FORT BEND COUNTY, TX (RNN) - A man has been arrested after police said he fatally stabbed his ex’s new boyfriend in front of her three children.

The suspect knocked on the woman’s door early Thursday morning and got into an argument with her, according to the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office.

The man left and she called 911. The man later returned and got into a fight with the woman’s boyfriend.

The suspect stabbed the man inside the home, in front of the three children ages 2, 4, and 12. The suspect is the father of at least two of the children, police said.

"It all happened pretty quick. She called 911 when they began arguing at the door. He left but then came immediately back. He opened the door, came inside and then got a knife from her kitchen and fought with the new boyfriend and stabbed him inside the dining area," Maj. Chad Norvell of the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office told Click 2 Houston.

The suspect then left before he was detained sometime later.

The man and his ex had been separated for at least two years, police said. Police have not released his identity.
