(CNN) - Macy's plans to let shoppers use its mobile app to skip the sales clerk and the regular line.

Customers will scan and pay for products with a smartphone. Then, they'll go to special mobile checkout counters close to the exit for purchase verification, removal of security tags and bagging purchases.

The department store chain plans to offer mobile checkout at all of its U.S. stores by the end of the year.

Macy's also plans to offer an augmented-reality furniture experience starting next month and expanding to 60 stores by this fall.

It lets shoppers see how tables and chairs will look in their homes.
