(CNN) - The Pentagon says U.S. forces have killed the head of the Afghanistan affiliate of ISIS.
According to the Pentagon, Abu Sayed, the "emir" of ISIS-Khorasan, was killed in a strike on the group's headquarters in Kunar Province on Tuesday. The province is northeast of the capital of Kabul.
A U.S. military spokesman says he was killed in a U.S. drone airstrike. And a U.S. military commander said Abu Sayed is the third ISIS-K emir they've killed in the last year.
And he said "we will continue until they are annihilated. There is no safe haven for ISIS-K in Afghanistan."
