(RNN) - The last surviving star of "Gone With the Wind" turns 101 on Saturday, July 1.
Olivia de Havilland played Melanie Wilkes alongside Vivian Leigh as Scarlett O'Hara and Clark Gable as the dashing Rhett Butler in the acclaimed 1940 film.
She is the last surviving member of the star-studded cast.
The film, based on Margaret Mitchell's bestselling novel of the same name, won eight Academy Awards, including best picture and a best supporting actress for Hattie McDaniel, the first African-American to win an Oscar.
De Havilland went on to win two best actress Oscars for her performances in other films, "To Each His Own" in 1946 and the 1949 film "The Heiress."
De Havilland lives in Paris, and was recently appointed Dame Commander of the British Empire in Queen Elizabeth II's Birthday Honors list. She said it was "the most gratifying of birthday gifts" in an interview with People magazine.
