OSHKOSH, WI ( WBAY/CNN) - A humane society offered cat-loving yoga enthusiasts a unique class - kitten yoga. It proved to be a crowd-pleaser.
"Cats are my favorite. I mean, it was a no-brainer,” said participant Kayla Jenkins. “Once I heard that they were going to do this, I'm like, ‘I am signing up immediately.'’
In fact, the first-ever kitten yoga class at the Oshkosh Area Humane Society sold out in less than six hours.
“Kitten Yoga is kind of a thing, in a lot of bigger cities. I've been teaching yoga for 15 years and I've been working here at the shelter for about six months now, and just thought, 'Wouldn't this be crazy and fun to do something like this?'" said instructor Gloria Simon Kuzma.
With kittens hopping from mat to mat, some yogis call this brand of yoga a good distraction.
"I definitely paid more attention to the cats, but I would do it again for sure,” said participant Ali Zerbe. “It was so much fun, and they were crawling all over everybody. It was just fun playing with them, and having them go underneath you when you were doing bridges and stuff."
Beyond the fun of it all, the program works to raise funds for the humane society and promote adoption for all animals.
"It's a good incentive to get people here. Seeing all the kittens and cats that just need homes, so I would definitely take one home if I could," Jenkins said.
Right now, there are no concrete plans for another kitten yoga class, but organizers hope to hold another few classes after the holiday season.
