RANCHO TEHAMA, CA (RNN) - A shooting at an elementary school Tuesday in northern California claimed the lives of at least three people, said a sheriff's office spokesman.
Assistant Sheriff Phil Johnston told Action News Now that he was told the suspected shooter was killed by law enforcement officers. The violence started at a home and moved to Tehama Elementary School.
"I don't know how many victims; I know of at least three deaths," Johnston said. "I don't know any information at this time about any of the victims at the school. I know that we have Medivac'd a number of students, I know that the school's been cleared."
He said the kids who were at the school are in a safe location.
The shooting was first reported around 8:15 a.m. PT.

In another recent fatal school shooting, a student opened fire at Freeman High School in Rockford, WA, on Sep. 13, killing a classmate who confronted him and wounded three other students before being subdued.
