(RNN) – There’s cold and then there’s the mind-numbing, freeze-your-soul kind of cold.
No one like’s it, but sometimes all you can do is joke about it. And that’s what Americans are doing as record cold temperatures spread from the Midwest to the Deep South.
The National Weather Service said it was the coldest New Year's Day on record in Chicago with a high of 1 degree. That’s the high, not the low.
But records are falling a lot of other places too.
