(RNN) - The sequel to mega-popular horror flick IT will hit theaters on Sep. 6. 2019, according to New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Pictures.
IGN reports that the sequel will debut in both regular and IMAX formats.
Writer Gary Dauberman and director Andres Muschietti are both expected to return for the sequel, which will follow the events of Stephen King's original novel. IT: Chapter 2 will pick up 27 years after the first film, following grown-up versions of each character.
Pennywise actor Bill Skarsgard said he wants to explore the "abstract and metaphysical" aspects of his character in the second movie.
The IT reboot is now the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all-time.
