Israeli police, protesters clash in Jerusalem

Posted

JERUSALEM (CNN) - Israeli police barred men under the age of 50 from entering the old city for Friday prayers. The move follows clashes between Palestinians and police that injured dozens of people.

The protests broke out after Israel's decision to put metal detectors at the al-Aqsa Mosque. They were placed there following a deadly shooting against Israeli police in the area last Friday.

Police used water cannons on protesters, and  rode on horseback in clashes with demonstrators. Hundreds of officers have been deployed.
