TAL AFAR, IRAQ (AVN/ASBU/CNN) - ISIS fighters are "completely surrounded" in Tal Afar as Iraqi forces move closer to city center, the spokesmen for the U.S.-led coalition and Iraqi Joint Military Command said at a joint press conference on Thursday.
Col. Ryan Dillon, spokesman of the U.S.-led coalition, told reporters ISIS fighters were "completely surrounded" in Tal Afar with their resources drying out, as their defeat nears. Tal Afar is located east of Mosul, once Iraq's second-largest city.
At least four neighborhoods have been recaptured in the key ISIS stronghold since the offensive began on Sunday, according to statements from the Iraqi Joint Command and the Federal Police.
Brigadier General Yahya Rasool, spokesman of the Iraqi Joint Command, said they brought the battle closer to central Tal Afar in the past 48 hours. Since the start of the operations, 302 ISIS fighters were killed and 33 rigged vehicles and 35 tunnels were destroyed.
