IRAN (IRIB/CNN) - Iran has successfully tested a new ballistic missile capable of carrying multiple warheads, the state-run broadcaster Press TV reported on Saturday, according to footage broadcast on Iranian state television.
"Iran has released footage of the successful test-launch of its new ballistic missile, Khorramshahr, a few hours after it was unveiled during a military parade in the capital city of Tehran," Press TV said.
The missile was launched from an unknown location.
"The ballistic missile, which is Iran's third type of missile with a range of 2,000 kilometers along with the Qadr-F and Sejjil ballistic missiles, is capable of carrying multiple warheads," the state-run broadcaster said.
Press TV reported, according to Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh, a senior commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Aerospace Force, "the Khorramshahr missile has become smaller in size and more tactical and it will be operational in the near future".
Video of the test launch aired on Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) on Friday.
