(RNN) - Defense Secretary James Mattis was treated to a bizarre show of force during a two-day meeting in Indonesia this week.

Indonesian special forces delivered an elaborate demonstration, braking bricks with their heads, running through flames and even holding a simulated a hostage situation with "Mission Impossible" music playing the background.

Even odder, teams of camouflage soldiers bit into the wiggling Cobra snakes, blood oozing from their mouths, and drank their blood.

Mattis seemed to enjoy the spectacle and smiled repeatedly.

The unit is currently barred from working with U.S. forces because of human rights abuses it has committed in the past, according to The Washington Post.

Mattis is on a trip throughout South East Asia to build alliances in the region at a time where tensions are on the rise over China’s claim to the South China Sea.

Indonesia is located between the Indian and Pacific ocean.
