(RNN) – A teacher in India has been arrested in connection to a deadly bomb blast that killed a newly married man and injured his bride.
The suspect, Punjilal Meher, a lecturer, worked with the victim’s mother and plotted the killing after she was promoted over him at Jyoti Bikash College.
Soumya Sekhar Sahu, 26, was killed and his wife Reema, 22, was injured after Sahu opened a package addressed him on Feb. 23, five days after his wedding. The incident occured on Feb. 18 in the town on Patnagarh, India.
"This looks like a wedding gift," Sahu reportedly told his wife minutes before opening the parcel. "The only thing that I don't know is the sender. I don't know anyone in Raipur."
A police chief told reporters Meher downloaded a bomb-making manual online and assembled the package at home.
Sahu's grand-aunt was also killed in the explosion.
