CHICAGO (CLTV/CNN) - If you win the lottery in Illinois, you might have to wait to get your money.

State lottery officials announced Tuesday that if Illinois doesn't reach a budget deal by July 1, the start of the fiscal year, it won't be able to pay people who win more than $25,000.

Not only that, if Illinois fails to pass a budget, the state plans to halt the sale of Powerball and Mega-millions tickets.

It has happened before.

In 2015, the state lottery didn't get the funding it needed until December.

That meant the holders of 3,900 winning tickets had to postpone collecting more than $112 million in spoils.

Illinois state lawmakers haven't passed a budget for two straight years.

It has $15 billion in unpaid bills and owes a quarter-trillion dollars to public employees.
