(CNN) – IBM’s new policy doubles paid leave for new parents to 12 weeks.

Mothers and fathers who had children after November 2016 are eligible for the new benefits.

They have until one year after their child's birth to take the leave.

Moms who give birth are covered under medical disability for an additional six to eight weeks off work.

IBM also unveiled other benefits for traveling mothers and financial assistance for parents who adopt or use a surrogate.

The expanded policies apply to both full-time and part-time employees in the U.S.

The company has 380,000 employees worldwide but does not say how many are based in the U.S.
