MINNEAPOLIS, MN (WCCO/CNN) - It wasn't long after her husband's death that Tessie Sylvester learned her life as a single mother would be getting even more difficult.
Sylvester was diagnosed with liver cancer the same day her husband, John, died.
"I was literally on the phone with the funeral director and the other line beeped and it was my doctor," Sylvester said. "I clicked over and answered it and that's when she said, 'It's cancer, and it doesn't look good.'"
Sylvester now faces a reality of raising her two sons without their father while she battles a life-threatening disease.
"I don't want to say it's not fair yet," Sylvester said. "I'm not ready to give in to it."
