Horse shot in head leaves Texas family distraught

HOUSTON, TX (KPRC/CNN) - Texas authorities are investigating a disturbing case of animal cruelty where two horses have been shot in the head within the last two months.

The most recent incident occurred just days before Christmas.

Arian Brock, 5, loves horses but this past weekend Arian's favorite horse "Sunny" was shot in the back of the head and left to die.

The palomino quarter horse was shot sometime over the weekend at the Brock family ranch in Raywood.

Camie Brock said Sunny was in his pasture when he was shot and was defenseless. The family believes the horse was shot with a high-powered rifle from a long distance away.

According to the Brocks, the worst part is that whoever shot Sunny left him bleeding to death, still alive, but in excruciating pain.

Camie said she found the horse lying in the grass unable to move.

"I didn't know what else to do but to lay down beside him and pray, put my hands on him," Brock said. "I told him I was there, it was OK, and I loved him.”

Sunny had to be euthanized right there in the family’s field.

Eight weeks prior, a miniature horse named "Chicken Nugget” was shot in the head at another family ranch less than six miles away.

The Brocks said they are heartbroken and they want whoever did this to be brought to justice.

"I want him to hurt. I know God doesn't want me to say that - but I want him to hurt," Camie Brock said.
