(RNN) - A grieving mother took to Facebook on Friday to explain the death of her 7-month-old son after other users blamed vaccines for his death.
On July 3, Jordan DeRosier shared on Facebook that her son died. In the original post, she did not share the cause of death, but she still received messages from people suggesting that vaccinations played a role in his death.
Those messages prompted DeRosier to make an additional post sharing the cause of her son's death. She appears in a photo in the post with her other son.
"To those who keep commenting and messaging trying to blame vaccines for our son's death - stop," she wrote. "Initially, I had not wanted to explain the detailed circumstances of his death because of my guilt and the fear of condemnation from others. But I will not allow anyone to try and place blame where it does not belong."
DeRosier said her son was found deceased with a blanket wrapped around his head. She put him to sleep on July 3 with two blankets, one of which was made by his great-great grandmother.
"He was last laid down to bed with this blanket made by his great-great grandmother, and one other blanket, a grey one he had been attached to since birth," she wrote. "They took the grey one he had been found with his head in. He had pulled it through the crib rails somehow and gotten himself stuck in it."
She warned other parents about putting their children to sleep with blankets. Her son was crawling, standing and climbing, so DeRosier thought he would be fine sleeping with a blanket.
Consumer Reports advises parents to avoid ever using a blanket in a crib. Instead, it advises parents to use wearable blankets - such as a swaddle - until the child graduates to a traditional bed.
