YUMA, AZ (CNN) - Teachers really have the power to inspire their students.
A sixth-grade teacher now realizes the impact she had on one of her students from 21 years ago.
In 1997, Judith Toensing wrote this note on Christin Gilmer's report card: "It has been a joy to have you in class. Keep up the good work! Invite me to your Harvard graduation!"
This week, Gilmer did just that. She returned to Toensing's classroom to invite her to her Harvard graduation.
Gilmer, now a Doctor of Public Health, said Toensing was one of the first people besides her mother to tell her she could achieve her dreams.
Toensing said this experience revitalized and energized her, and she will be a better teacher because of it.
