(RNN) - Officials said that eight prisons guards and seven inmates were sent to the hospital after a fight between two inmates quickly escalated.
Correctional officers fired 19 shots to break up the brawl, according to The Associated Press.
Five inmates suffered gunshot wounds, but their conditions are currently unknown.
Officials said that inmates refused to break up the original fight, then several prisoners jumped in and attacked guards.
