BRIDGEPORT, CT (News12/CNN) - Nobody was killed when a speeding car crashed into pedestrians and slammed them into a building, a frightful scene captured on surveillance video that shows a woman heroically trying to save a child's life.
The woman, Shanta Jordan, jumped to push the boy from the path of the oncoming car, helping him to avoid being pinned by the vehicle.
The incident took place Thursday, when a car crashed into the side of Junco’s Restaurant in Bridgeport, CT, sending the woman and two children flying.
The driver was arrested and charged with reckless driving for causing an accident that sent the boy, his brother and Jordan to the hospital with serious injuries.
One of the boys was operated on for hours Thursday to avoid a leg amputation.
Bridgeport Police Chief AJ Perez, Mayor Joe Ganim and Sen. Richard Blumenthal will be in attendance to present a commendation to Jordan next week.
"I want to say thank you to this good person," Perez says. "If it wasn't' because she stepped in, I truly believe it would have been a fatality."
Officials say Jordan is still recovering from her injuries.
