LANSING, MI (RNN) - A Michigan State University physicist has been charged with two counts of sodomy for committing a crime against nature (bestiality) and faces up to 15 years in prison.

Joseph Hattey worked as a health physicist within the university's Environmental Health and Safety office. He previously worked within the university's Veterinarian Diagnostic Laboratory, according to the Lansing State Journal.
Hattey, 51, allegedly penetrated a dog with his hands and penis, according to a press release from the Michigan Attorney General’s Office.
Hattey is not known to have done this on the university’s campus.
The dog, a basset hound, was removed from harm and is currently at the Ingham County Animal Control, according to the release.
Other Michigan State employees have come under legal fire in recent years.
More than 200 women and girls said former Michigan State athletic doctor Larry Nassar sexually abused him in the last two decades. He pleaded guilty to multiple sex crime charges and was sentenced to between 40 and 175 years in prison on state and federal charges.
The Michigan Attorney General’s Office issued warrants for William Derkey Strampel, the dean of MSU’s College of Osteopathic Medicine, who is facing charges accusing him of groping a student and storing pornographic content on his computer.
